Today’s Question: How do I Eat Healthier?

Eating healthy is always a challenge. It’s a common misconception that healthy = bad taste. Let me help you out today.

  • The tastiest way to trick yourself into eating healthy is fruits. There is something for everybody since each fruit is different in taste as well as texture. The reason I recommend snacking on fruits is because they are low in calories and packed with vitamins.

  • The next step is to make a list of foods with empty calories that you don’t like eating as much. Empty calories are those foods that offer no nutrition and are solely eaten for taste. You don’t need to cut it all out but even 2 or 3 items can make a big dent. 3 years ago I started avoiding Coke and Pepsi and now I just don’t crave them since I see them as just sugar and chemicals.

  • High fiber and high protein are your new best friends. Look for foods that contain these elements. You may not like all of those foods but even one or two items high in these elements is good enough. The goal is to be sustainable instead of forcing yourself to eat things you don’t like.

  • Another thing I look at is the cooking process itself. If the food is too processed, then it’s probably not good for you as it loses most of its nutrients. So baked goodies are something I try to limit. ( Never avoid but rather limit your consumption )

  • No matter what people tell you, don’t completely cut down on carbs. They are also important and aren’t bad for you when eaten in moderation.

  • Lastly, the trick to eating healthy is following the one-hour-water rule. Try drinking water an hour before you eat. This keeps you slightly full and you don’t end up overeating.

Eating healthy is something you should stick to for at least most days of the week. It is how ever cruel and unrealistic to completely cut down on junk food. So find junk food that is relatively less harmful to your body. Good luck. If you are looking to lose weight, maybe check out the post below.
