Today’s Question: How do I come out to my parents?

This is definitely a sensitive question but I will try my best to help you out. First of all you need to understand that you don’t need anyone’s approval to be yourself. Naturally, opening up to your parents about your sexuality can be intimidating, I mean straight people don’t need to go to their parents and say that they are straight.

  • Firstly you need to decide when and where you want to tell them. Ideally, it should be somewhere private and with no time constrain. So weekends are your best bet.

  • Be prepared for questions. It isn’t necessary that your parents are already informed about the LGBTQIA. So it’s best to do some research and stay prepared to answer those questions with clarity.

  • You don’t need to label yourself if you don’t want to. You can just tell your parents how you feel.

  • Coming out definitely requires a lot of nerves but it is important to remember that it is important for you to be able to express yourself to your family. You need to be patient and remember that acceptance may take time.
