Today’s Question: How do I reconnect with friends and family?

I love this question. As adults, we can often forget the importance of healthy relationships and might isolate ourselves. This may lead to a disconnect from our closest ones. Well the good news for you, is that it is certainly possible to reconnect with family and friends if you decide to put in the time and effort.

Here are some steps to guide you in the right direction

  • Start small, by dropping your friends a text at least once a week. Not all of them would reply but you don’t need a ton of friends but rather one or two close ones.

  • You can try sending cards on holidays like Christmas, to let your family know you care, even if you may not be able to make it there sometimes.

  • Time and Trust are the key factors in building lasting relationships, so try to spend more time with them whenever possible.

  • Try to understand the reason for the disconnect and work on it. Many reasons like misunderstandings, lack of trust, or lack of spending quality time can strain such relationships. The secret to reconnecting with family and friends is “honesty” mixed with “patience”.

  • You can’t rush the process, it would seem too pushy. So lean into it gradually and give the person time.
